Conjugating Verbs: VTI oowatoo: oowatoo practice time!

In this lesson, we will practice various forms of the verb oowatoo 'to eat'. We will explore affirmative vs. negative verb forms, pronouns, and different tenses (present, future, and past).

Affirmative and Negative (Present tense)

Match the affirmative present verb with the corresponding negative present verb. E.g. 'I am eating it' will match with 'I am not eating it'. Click a word and then click its match to form a matching pair. Remember that negative present verbs contain the morpheme máát (maat).

Affirmative and Negative Past

Sort the verbs into two categories: verbs containing the negative morpheme máát (maat) and affirmative verbs that do not contain this morpheme. The categories will be affirmative and not affirmative (negative). All verbs are conjugated in the past tense. Click the box where you want to place the word. It will turn blue. Pronouns: 'I' (1SG) vs. 'You' (2SG)

Sort the verbs into 2 categories: verbs conjugated for the 1st person singular ('I') and those conjugated for the 2nd person singular ('You'). In Blackfoot, the morpheme for the 1st person singular ('I') is nit- or n-. The morpheme for the 2nd person singular ('You') is kit- or k-. The 2 choices will switch places during the activity, so read the choices carefully!

Pronouns: 'You' (2SG) vs. 'You all' (2PL)

Sort the verbs into 2 categories: verbs conjugated for the 2nd person singular ('you') and those conjugated for the 2nd person plural ('you all'). In Blackfoot, the morpheme for the 2nd person singular is 'pa and the morpheme for the 2nd person plural is 'poaa(wa). Both forms will have the morpheme kit- or k-. The 2 choices will switch places during the activity, so read the choices carefully!

Future tense or not future tense?

Sort the verbs into two categories: verbs conjugated in the future tense and verbs NOT conjugated in the future tense. Remember that verbs conjugated in the future tense contain the morpheme áak (yáak). Click the box where you want to place the word. It will turn blue. Matching Past and Present Tense Verbs
